You do not need a referral to see a psychologist, however if you do have a referral or Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from a GP or psychiatrist, you can claim a Medicare rebate. To be eligible for a MHCP, the doctor must conduct an assessment of your current psychological functioning (please advise the receptionist that you are seeking this plan so appropriate time allocations can be made).
Under Better Access, Medicare rebates are available for up to 20 sessions per calendar year. You may be eligible for up to 20 sessions depending on your presenting concerns as you will need to return to the doctor for a review after the 6th session and the 10th session in order to have access to rebates beyond 10 sessions.
Please bring the referral letter or MHCP to your first appointment, or you can request them to be sent directly via e-mail or fax.
Standard fees: The standard 50-mins individual session is $190; the standard 50-mins couple/family session is $230. An additional $10 is applied to after hours and weekend sessions.
Rebate: If you have a referral or Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), Medicare’s Better Access program subsidises up to 20 sessions per calendar year with an amount between $87.45 and $177.50. You will receive the lower rebate ($87.45) until you reach your Medicare Safety Net.
If you are eligible for a Private Health Insurance rebate, you will be provided with a claimable receipt which you can then use to make your claim. Note that it is not possible to claim both private health and Medicare for the same appointment.
Reduced fees: In some circumstances I offer a reduced fee to clients who are experiencing ongoing financial difficulties. Unless an arrangement is made with me for a reduced fee, you are responsible for paying the standard consultation fee on the day of the appointment. Please note that I do not offer bulk billing.
Report/letter: Fees vary depending on the nature, content, and length of the report/letter. If you require an assessment of this nature, I ask you to first make an initial 50-minute appointment to see me and we will discuss your requirements in this consultation. Generally, the cost of a simple 1-1.5 page report/letter is one hour of the consultation fees + GST.
Non-Attendance Session Fees: Out of courtesy to our professional relationship, please provide at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment as I have limited appointments available.
Sessions that are not cancelled with a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to the session may incur a cancellation fee of 50% of the session cost. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, a full fee equal to the cost of the session may apply.
Please be aware that you cannot use Medicare, Worksafe, TAC and Private Health Insurance for an appointment you have failed to cancel.
Payment Options: Payments can be made by bank remittance (must be made on the same day) or credit card (incurs a 2% surcharge).
There is an online booking function on this website where you can view available appointment times and schedule one in for yourself. Alternatively, you can email Excellence Psychology for other available appointment times.
Should you need to cancel or reschedule your session for any reason in less than 48 hours, please contact Excellence Psychology as the online booking function requires more than 48 hours to make an amendment.
If you are booking an initial appointment, it can be advisable to book in your first 2 or 3 appointments to ensure availability of times that suit you. This is often a good idea, because during the initial stages of psychological treatment, it is better to avoid extended gaps between the first few sessions.
Whilst Excellence Psychology does offer some appointment bookings outside of work hours, the practice is not a crisis service. If you or a loved one are having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, experiencing a personal crisis or need someone to talk to right away, please call:
