You do not need a referral to see a psychologist, however if you do have a referral or Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from a GP or psychiatrist, you can claim a Medicare rebate. To be eligible for a MHCP, the doctor must conduct an assessment of your current psychological functioning (please advise the receptionist that you are seeking this plan so appropriate time allocations can be made).
Clients are eligible for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. It is important to note a MHCP is issued for an authorised number of sessions (maximum 6 sessions). After the initial 6 sessions, the psychologist will provide a written report back to the referring practitioner. The client must then make an appointment to review the plan with the doctor in order to access a further 4 sessions.
Please bring the referral letter or MHCP to your first appointment, or you can request them to be sent directly via e-mail or fax.
Rebate: The Medicare rebate for a Clinical Psychologist is $141.85. You will receive a higher rebate when you reach your Medicare Safety Net. If you are eligible for a Private Health Insurance rebate, you will be provided with a claimable receipt which you can then use to make your claim. Note that it is not possible to claim both private health and Medicare for the same appointment.
Standard fees: For new patient, a standard 50-minute individual session is $270 (out of pocket cost after rebate is $128.15). Couple and family therapy session is $290. Our fees are less than the Australian Psychological Society's recommended fee schedule.
Reduced fees: In some circumstances I offer a reduced fee to clients who are experiencing ongoing financial difficulties. Unless an arrangement is made with me for a reduced fee, you are responsible for paying the standard consultation fee on the day of the appointment. Please note that I do not offer bulk billing.
Report/letter: Fees vary depending on the nature, content, and length of the report/letter. If you require an assessment of this nature, I ask you to first make an initial appointment to discuss your requirements. Generally, the cost of a simple 1-1.5 page report/letter is one hour of the consultation fees + GST. Please note that Medicare does not provide rebate for a report/letter.
WPATH assessment: For adults, WPATH assessment normally takes between 2-3 sessions, depending on the complexity of the presentation and history. The WPATH report is usually 5-7 pages and cost 2 hours of the consultation fees + GST. I provide WPATH assessment for young people (15-18 years old) on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out if you would like to find out more information.
Non-Attendance Session Fees: Out of courtesy to our professional relationship, please provide at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment as I have limited appointments available.
Sessions that are not cancelled with a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to the session may incur a cancellation fee of 50% of the session cost. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, a full fee equal to the cost of the session may apply. Please note that Medicare does not provide rebate for the cancellation fee.
Payment Options: Accounts are settled on the day of consultation. Payments can be made by bank remittance or credit card (incurs a 2.5% surcharge). Medicare benefits are processed through a practice computer program once payment has been received.
For existing clients: There is an online booking function on this website where you can view available appointment times and schedule one in for yourself. Should you need to cancel or reschedule your session for any reason in less than 48 hours, please contact Excellence Psychology as the online booking function requires more than 48 hours to make an amendment.
For new clients: If you are booking an initial appointment, it is advisable to book in at least two appointments to ensure availability of times that suit you. This is often a good idea, because during the initial stages of psychological treatment, it is better to avoid extended gaps between the first few sessions.
Please note that I do not take NDIS, Worksafe and TAC cases at this point.
Whilst Excellence Psychology does offer some appointment bookings outside of work hours, the practice is not a crisis service. If you or a loved one are having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, experiencing a personal crisis or need someone to talk to right away, please call:
