Early professional experience. Joshua began his career as a psychologist in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS), where he worked across both hospital and community mental health settings. In these multidisciplinary teams, he collaborated closely with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, and fellow psychologists to support individuals experiencing complex and acute mental health challenges.
His role included completing recovery-focused assessments, delivering therapy, and supporting clients to identify their goals and regain a sense of purpose in their daily lives. Over a number of years in the NHS, Joshua became deeply experienced in working with people facing acute distress and complex presentations. These experiences provided him with a strong clinical foundation, as well as a deep respect for recovery-orientated practice and the resilience of the people he worked with.
Relocation to Australia. In 2022, Joshua relocated to Australia to continue his career while also seeking balance after years of frontline hospital work during COVID. He brings with him not only his extensive clinical experience, but also a passion for creating safe and affirming therapeutic spaces.
Therapeutic approaches. Joshua adopts a compassionate, reflective and evidence-based stance, integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT) approaches within his work. He views the therapeutic alliance as central to healing and places strong emphasis on creating safety and collaboration in sessions.
Commitment to the queer community. Joshua understands the importance of affirming therapeutic spaces for LGBTQIA+ clients. He is committed to supporting people who have experienced marginalisation, stigma or discrimination, and believes that advocacy and safety are at the heart of meaningful therapy. Joshua’s lived experience, alongside his professional expertise, makes him a unique and trusted clinician for clients from the queer community and beyond.
Qualifications. Joshua completed his BSc (Hons) in Criminology & Psychology at the University of Portsmouth in 2014, followed by postgraduate studies in Psychology at the University of Derby (2014–2016). He went on to complete his MSc in Clinical Psychology in 2020.
He is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is currently awaiting AHPRA registration. Joshua has extensive experience working within CBT and CAT frameworks, with additional training informed by psychodynamic approaches.
